official 2009 #snowpocalypse #snOMG post

I feel like this post may be necessary.
Post all things snowpocalypse here!
(pics, updates, snow ball fights, etc.)

The Capitol Hill Weather Gang is saying this is probably going to be a top 5 storm of ALL TIME for DC, and definitely the worst (or best ;)) December storm ever. 16-24+ inches folks!

FYI Catholics!

The Catholic Archdiocese of Washington put a note on its Web site saying that dangerous travel conditions are legitimate excuses for not attending Mass on Sunday. It pointed people who couldn't get to Mass safely to a televised service.

Your picture is broken! Which is just as well because Snowpocalypse has prevented me from being in DC, and looking at pictures is making me crazy homesick. I miss snowy winters.

A normal ten minute drive home at 2am took me almost double, mostly since I stayed in 3rd gear a lot. It's slick out there but not too bad yet - but I still only managed to get halfway up my driveway. Oh well, the car is staying where it is.

Ahhh I already love this post.

With predicted up to 2 feet now? We're now planning to get the toddler dressed up in her snowsuit tomorrow and see if we can plop her in a snowdrift and get a picture of how deep it is compared to her without her freaking out too much. XD

Just drove to pick up my bf at King St metro. It's really coming down. Saw three plows on King and Duke.

really the most important thing is to keep plowing and keep up with the sand and salt... I hear them out in my neighborhood now! DC metro just doesn't have the resources for this kind of storm - but it looks like everything is being handled well at the moment.

Aaaaand I just found out we have only one extra roll of toilet paper, because today is our usual grocery day and my husband didn't feel like standing in line, and thought "oh, it's not like it's actually going to snow for serious or anything". I hope his Syracuse-bred ass is up to proving his snow-driving skills on Sunday. (And here I was thinking "oh, it's not like we need anything important". Fuck.)

It always seems to work out that we run out of something important just before it snows. Yesterday, it was milk. I really wanted a sign to carry that said "I'm not panicking, I just happened to run out of milk!!" ;-)

Great post- I really love that you hashtagged it. We're using #snowpocalypse09

As of 9 am, my husband measured 11 inches in the grass out here in Annandale. Our complex has been plowed about 3 times already by our contractor. It's passable but continually covered in snow.

We live in Arlington. My husband works Tu-Sat in Sterling in a 24/7 facility (TV broadcasting site) and since they've done a round of layoffs earlier this year, they're shortstaffed and insisting he come in.

Given that he already got in one fender bender last night coming home (car in front of him spun out, and though he moved to the shoulder to avoid it, it ended up spinning onto the shoulder), I am extremely displeased with this. And worried. And he's from North Carolina, so he knows fuck-all about driving in snow.

It took us SIXTEEN hours to drive from DC to Raleigh last night. Usual time? 5 hours. WTF

We sat in Richmond on I95 for THREE HOURS

When we finally moved the 1/2 mile to the front of the problem, we realized it was a dozen semis who couldn't get up a hill and were blocking traffic. Each car that arrived at the impasse had to figure out how to dangerously weave around them to move on.

And the most ridic thing of all? There were no police! NOBODY was there to help. I have never seen something so crazy. We literally sat in nonmoving traffic from 11:30-2:00 am. Not moving an inch. Ughhh.

A friend who teaches at CUA says her students were freaking out about the canceled exams because a lot of them have planes to catch. Not that anyone's flying out today.
